Sara's Summer Concert Tour

So far this summer I have been to 4 concerts.  Three of them were at Wolf Trap which is a state park with an amphitheater that can hold 7,000 people.  Wolf Trap is a small venue where you can bring your own food/drinks and chairs.  The last concert was at Nissan Pavilion, I mean Jiffy Lube Live (blah), which is a bigger venue (25,000) and you have to buy their $8 beers (blah).  The good things about Jiffy Lube Live is that it is 2 miles from our house and it's the biggest outdoor concert facility in the DC Metro Area therefore all the big names go to that venue.

The first show was Harry Connick Jr.  He is a talented jazz musician, born and raised in New Orleans.  He put out his first record at the age of 10!  I was fighting with my mom to quit piano lessons at the age of 10.  He seemed to enjoy talking with the audience and kept us entertained with his music.  If you want a relaxing and entertaining jazz show, he's a good performer to see.

The second show was Chris Isaak.  We were in lawn seats so it was difficult to get a good picture, but in the middle of the set I had the sudden urge to put on a purple Elvis jumpsuit and yodel.  You can probably guess why I got the urge to do that.  The two songs that I recognized (Wicked Games and Somebody's Crying) were sung before a massive thunderstorm rolled through.  It was entertaining to watch everyone scramble for the 2 foot awning near concessions and hide from the cats and dogs falling from the sky. I had just put on my (Jason's) blue jacket when it started raining and I thought I could sit and watch the concert.  I was completely soaked from head to toe within 30 secs (not exaggerating).  It was then that I looked around and all but 3  (out of 18 people in our group) had booked it to the awnings or their cars.  I guess then was a good clue to follow the crowd.  Since there was very threatening lightning and the storm was too big to wait out, the show came to an early end.  I'll need to remember to wear that purple jumpsuit next year.

The third concert was with George Thorogood and the Destroyers.  Those of us born around 1980 are asking ourselves, WHO in the world are THEY?!  I thought the same thing but once they started performing, I recognized their songs.  They had famous hits such as "Who Do You Love?," "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer," "Bad to the Bone," and a few others.  Even though they peaked in their career a few years before I was born, they did put on a good show. It was one you can sing along to.

Saving the best for last...I saw Green Day at Nissan, correction: Jiffy Lube Live (blah) with some close friends.  An important question I would like answered is, why haven't I seen them live before now?!?!  They put on a FANTASTIC show and I highly recommend seeing them live.  Green Day made it's breakthrough when we were in high school and brought grunge music to the East Coast.  They continue to put out hit albums and now have their music on Broadway in "21 Guns."  I'm not sure if I agree with having a musical created from the music of Green Day, but I shouldn't make that judgement until I see the show.  Anyway, their setlist was awesome and they ended with Good Riddance (Time of Your Life). Appropriate.

As we all know I am probably one of the biggest Dave Matthews Band (DMB) fans out there.  I have seen them 7 times and plan on seeing them again in the future.  Unfortunately, last year they were playing at Nissan the day before our wedding.  I had begged Jason to go see them but it was a no-go.  We had too much going on.  This year DMB played at the new Nationals Stadium in Southeast DC on a Friday night.  The time and place discouraged me from buying tickets because I was looking forward to seeing them at Nissan and having a bbq at our house before the show.  Oh well, better luck next year.  Maybe they will get their heads on straight and play at Nissan, I mean Jiffy Lube Live (blah).

I'll stop sounding like a radio show promoter now.  Check out the pictures:
